Time limits
Neither firm imposes a deadline to complete their evaluations, but they both restrict your freedom to step away from the markets. Both Blue Guardian and FunderPro enforce a 30-day inactivity rule; if you do not place or close a trade within a month, your account is automatically failed. This prevents you from waiting indefinitely for the perfect setup.
Furthermore, you are not free to withdraw immediately after hitting a profit target. Blue Guardian requires between 3 and 5 profitable days (with at least 0.5% gain) depending on the account type. FunderPro requires 5 profitable days on its Instant program. These rules prevent you from passing a challenge with a single "lucky" trade and then doing nothing.
Weekends and news
These firms differ significantly in what they forbid during high-volatility periods.
- Blue Guardian: You are not allowed to trade news on Funded or Instant Standard accounts. Opening or closing trades within 5 minutes of a high-impact news release (red folder) is prohibited. Any profit made during this window will be confiscated. However, they do not restrict you from holding positions over the weekend.
- FunderPro: By default, you are not allowed to hold positions over the weekend on Challenge or Funded accounts; all trades must be closed by Friday at 16:30 EST. News trading is also restricted on Funded and Instant accounts unless you pay for a "Swing" or "News Trading" add-on. Without these extras, you are locked out of the most volatile and potentially profitable market hours.
Where you can trade from
Your geographic freedom is heavily restricted by Blue Guardian compared to FunderPro.
- Blue Guardian: They have an extensive list of banned countries. You cannot trade from South Africa, Philippines, Vietnam, Nigeria, Pakistan, Turkey, or several European countries like Romania, Bulgaria, and Croatia, among many others.
- FunderPro: Their restrictions are much lighter, focusing primarily on standard sanctioned regions like North Korea, Iran, Syria, and specific parts of Ukraine.
- Both firms forbid the use of VPNs or VPS to bypass their copy-trading rules or to mask your identity if you are from a restricted region.
What the platform limits
The technical environment dictates what strategies you cannot execute.
- Blue Guardian: You cannot use cTrader. You are also strictly forbidden from "tick scalping," defined as any trade closed in under 2 minutes. This rule effectively bans high-frequency trading and very short-term scalping. You are also restricted from hedging across multiple accounts.
- FunderPro: You cannot use MatchTrader. While they allow scalping, they prohibit "flooding the market with small pip trades" and forbid the use of third-party EAs on Instant accounts unless you own the source code. Grid and Martingale strategies are also on their prohibited list.
What the rules cost you
The cost of entry and the risk parameters limit your financial "breathing room."
- Blue Guardian: The price of a $25,000 1-Step account is $134, which limits how many attempts a trader with a small budget can make. On many accounts (1 Step Standard, Instant, Nano), the drawdown is "Trailing," meaning the floor moves up with your profits, giving you less room to recover after a winning streak. Additionally, they do not offer refunds on their accounts.
- FunderPro: A $25,000 Classic Challenge costs $219, significantly higher than its competitor, which limits your ability to scale through multiple account purchases. While their challenges have fixed drawdown, their Instant accounts use a trailing drawdown of 6%. You also cannot withdraw less than $100.
Restrictions that add up
The combined effect of these rules creates a narrow path for the trader. At Blue Guardian, the combination of a trailing drawdown, a 2-minute minimum hold time, and a strict 5-minute news ban on funded accounts means you cannot be a news trader or a fast scalper, and you are punished for being successful as your drawdown floor rises.
At FunderPro, the restrictions are "pay-to-remove." You are restricted from weekend holding and news trading unless you pay extra for add-ons, which increases your initial risk. When combined with their consistency rules (ranging from 15% to 45% maximum daily profit), you are prevented from having highly volatile, high-profit days, forcing you to smooth out your equity curve even if the market offers a once-in-a-month opportunity.
Frequently asked questions
Which firm is more restrictive regarding the news, Blue Guardian or FunderPro?
Blue Guardian is more restrictive for funded traders because it strictly forbids opening or closing trades within a 5-minute window of high-impact news on all Funded and Instant Standard accounts, with no option to bypass this. FunderPro restricts news trading by default on its Funded and Instant accounts, but it allows you to remove this limitation if you purchase the specific News Trading or Swing add-ons.
Which firm has more geographic limitations, Blue Guardian or FunderPro?
Blue Guardian has significantly more geographic restrictions. Their banned list includes dozens of countries that are typically accepted by other firms, such as the Philippines, Vietnam, South Africa, Pakistan, and several EU nations like Romania and Croatia. FunderPro has a much shorter list, primarily restricting only high-risk sanctioned countries like North Korea, Iran, and Syria.
Is it more expensive to start a $50,000 challenge at Blue Guardian or FunderPro?
It is more expensive to start at FunderPro. Their $50,000 Classic Challenge (2-step) costs $319. In contrast, Blue Guardian offers a $50,000 2-Step Standard account for $232 and a 1-Step account for $200. Therefore, FunderPro limits your number of potential attempts much more than Blue Guardian does for the same capital size.
Which firm limits the use of platforms more, Blue Guardian or FunderPro?
Both firms offer MetaTrader 5 and TradeLocker, but they differ in their third option. Blue Guardian does not allow the use of cTrader, offering MatchTrader instead. FunderPro does not offer MatchTrader but provides access to cTrader. If you are a cTrader user, you are completely restricted from using your preferred platform at Blue Guardian.
