Scalping and Intraday Trading
Both firms allow scalping, but their cost structures and platform availability differ significantly.
- FundingPips: Offers MetaTrader 5, MatchTrader, and cTrader. Commissions vary by account type: $5/lot on standard 1 and 2-step models, $7 on Zero, and $10 on Prime. It enforces a simultaneous open lot limit (e.g., 40 lots for $100K accounts) to manage exposure.
- Hola Prime: Provides MetaTrader 5, cTrader, MatchTrader, and TradeLocker. Forex commissions are lower at $3/lot. While Pro accounts have lot caps (40 lots for $100K), Prime and Direct accounts do not have an explicit lot limit, though they are subject to a "risk per idea" rule of 2% of the initial balance.
Swing Trading and Weekend Holding
The ability to hold positions over the weekend is a major point of divergence, often requiring extra fees or specific account models.
- FundingPips: In the evaluation phase, overnight and weekend holding is allowed. However, on Master accounts (Flex, Standard, Pro), you must purchase the "Swing" add-on. Without it, positions are automatically closed before the market closes. Weekend holding is strictly prohibited on FundingPips Zero (hard breach).
- Hola Prime: Holding is permitted in Prime and Pro evaluations. For Pro sim funded accounts, positions must be closed by Friday 15:45 EST, or they will be auto-closed. For Direct accounts, failing to close before the weekend results in a hard breach and account termination.
News Trading
Both firms restrict news trading on funded accounts to prevent gambling on high-impact volatility.
- FundingPips: Allowed during evaluations. On Master accounts, any trade opened or closed within 5 minutes of a high-impact news event will have its profits deducted. On the Zero model, trading news is a hard breach.
- Hola Prime: Allowed without restrictions in the Prime model and all evaluation phases. However, in Pro sim funded and Direct accounts, opening or closing trades 5 minutes before or after high-impact news is prohibited. Violating this in Pro leads to profit removal, while in Direct, it causes account closure.
Automated Trading (EAs)
Automation is possible in both firms, but the conditions and costs vary.
- FundingPips: Third-party EAs are only permitted if used as trade or risk managers. Full automation is only allowed for personal EAs if the trader can provide proof of code ownership. EAs are prohibited in their monthly competitions.
- Hola Prime: EAs are only allowed on MT5 and require a +10% surcharge on the base fee. Traders must declare their strategy, and the tools used cannot automatically modify orders unless the specific EA Trading add-on was purchased. It is unavailable for Direct accounts.
Copy Trading and Hedging
These strategies are heavily regulated to ensure the trader is the one actually performing the work.
- FundingPips: Only permits copy trading between your own FundingPips accounts. Inbound copy trading from external sources is prohibited. Hedging is not allowed.
- Hola Prime: Allows copy trading only between your own accounts (limitations apply: 1 master and 1 copier for funded accounts). Hedging is permitted within a single account but prohibited across multiple accounts.
If you trade like this
- Scalpers: FundingPips is a strong choice due to its higher leverage (up to 1:2000 on Prime) and diverse platforms, although Hola Prime offers slightly lower commissions ($3 vs $5+).
- Swing Traders: Hola Prime (Prime model) is better as it allows weekend holding without extra add-ons. FundingPips is viable only if you pay for the Swing add-on.
- News Traders: Hola Prime is the clear winner for its Prime model, which has no news restrictions, whereas FundingPips will deduct your profits.
- EA Users: Hola Prime provides more flexibility for third-party EAs as long as you pay the 10% fee, while FundingPips requires proof of ownership for full automation.
