The split
Breakout starts all its accounts with an 80/20 profit split. However, they offer a unique "90/10 split" add-on at the time of purchase which makes the 90% share permanent for that account. In contrast, FTM Perps uses a performance-based scaling model:
- You receive 80% on your first four approved payouts.
- The share increases to 85% on the fifth payout.
- From the sixth payout onwards, you keep 90% of the profits.
How often you can withdraw
Both firms have eliminated the traditional 14 or 30-day waiting periods, focusing on high-frequency access to capital.
- Breakout: Withdrawals are available on demand, 24/7, from the very first day you trade the funded account. You simply need to close your positions, request the payout, and you can continue trading immediately as the amount is deducted from your balance.
- FTM Perps: You can request a payout any day of the week, including weekends. There is no mandatory "new profit" requirement between requests, meaning you can withdraw as soon as you meet the balance threshold.
Minimums and methods
The minimum amount to request a payout is $50 in both firms (after the split is applied).
- Breakout: Payouts are processed exclusively in Crypto, specifically USDC (ERC-20). They guarantee approval within 12 to 24 hours.
- FTM Perps: They offer more variety with Crypto and Rise. They also feature a "Payout Guarantee": if an eligible payout is not processed within 24 business hours, they double the amount (up to $1,000).
What delays a payout
The primary "delay" in Breakout is the KYC process and the signing of the agreement (Payward Oceanic Ltd), which usually takes between 12 and 24 hours before the funded account is active. They do not have consistency rules or minimum trading days.
In FTM Perps, the main delay is the 1% threshold: your balance must be at least 1% above the starting balance to be eligible for a withdrawal. Additionally, an account with no activity for 30 days is closed, which could permanently stop your path to a payout. Neither firm enforces complex consistency rules regarding lot sizes or "gambling" filters that typically block withdrawals in other prop firms.
What it takes to get there
To reach the payout stage, you must overcome a 1-step evaluation.
- Investment: For a $10,000 account, Breakout charges $85 for the Classic version (6% max drawdown) or $65 for the Pro version (5% max drawdown). FTM Perps charges $138 for its $10,000 Infinity account (3% max drawdown).
- Risk limits: Both firms use static drawdown, which is a major advantage as it does not trail your profits. Breakout's daily limit is 3% based on the balance at 00:30 UTC. FTM Perps' daily limit is also 3% but includes floating losses.
- Platforms and Styles: Both firms require using their proprietary terminals (Breakout Terminal and FTM Terminal). Breakout prohibits copy trading and third-party EAs. FTM Perps allows Martingale and layering but currently does not support EAs (API access is announced as coming soon).
Which pays out more comfortably
Breakout is the more comfortable choice for traders who want "instant" access to their money. Since there is no 1% threshold, even a $60 profit can be withdrawn immediately. It is ideal for those who prefer small, frequent payouts to de-risk their initial investment.
FTM Perps pays out more comfortably for high-volume or long-term traders who can easily clear the 1% threshold. Its payout guarantee provides extra peace of mind, and the automatic scaling to 90% without paying for an add-on makes it more profitable over months of consistent trading.
Frequently asked questions
Which firm is cheaper to start a $10,000 challenge, Breakout or FTM Perps?
Breakout is significantly cheaper. You can start a $10,000 "1-Step Pro" evaluation for $65 or a "1-Step Classic" for $85. In comparison, FTM Perps charges $138 for its $10,000 "Infinity" account, which is nearly double the price of Breakout's most affordable option.
Does Breakout or FTM Perps offer a better profit split?
It depends on your strategy. Breakout allows you to have a 90% split from day one if you pay for the add-on at purchase. FTM Perps starts at 80% and requires you to successfully complete five payouts before reaching the 90% level, but this scaling is free and happens automatically over time.
Which firm has stricter drawdown rules, Breakout or FTM Perps?
FTM Perps is stricter regarding the total limit, offering only 3% (Infinity) or 5% (Infinity Plus) static drawdown. Breakout offers more breathing room with a 6% static drawdown on its Classic accounts. Both firms are similar regarding daily limits, both set at 3%.
Can I use EAs and copy trading in Breakout or FTM Perps?
Both firms are quite restrictive in this area. Breakout prohibits copy trading between users and the use of third-party or off-the-shelf EAs. FTM Perps currently does not support EAs at all, although they have announced that API access for proprietary bots is coming soon. Neither firm allows MetaTrader.
