Barchart Premier review

Researched and written by TheGodFunded2 min read

Barchart is a very complete and cheap market data website: quotes, charts, screeners and news on stocks, ETFs, options, futures, currencies and crypto. It is one of the few retail sites with so much information on futures, including COT reports (the positions of large traders) and the expiry calendar.

We read its plan comparison, its Premier page and all 47 of its Trustpilot reviews.

What it offers

  • An overview of all futures (indices, energy, metals, currencies, grains), heat maps, most active and daily surprises, including European futures.
  • COT reports, contract specifications, expiry dates and an economic calendar.
  • Screeners for stocks, ETFs, funds and options, and technical signals.
  • Its own news and analysis, webinars and the daily "Market on Close" show.
  • On Premier: options tools (flow, unusual activity, volatility), historical data downloads from 2000 and real-time SMS alerts.

It runs on the web and a mobile app.

Note: data is delayed: 15 minutes for stocks and 10 or 15 for futures and forex. Real-time futures are sold separately, with its cmdtyView software.

  • 30 days free on Plus and Premier.
  • To cancel you have to email them: one user cancelled during the trial on the website and was charged for the year.

What users say

It scores 4.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot, from 47 reviews. Our review analysis above breaks it down.

  • The best: the amount of data for very little money, the training and fast support.
  • The worst: criticism of some of its articles, outages during Asian hours and lots of marketing emails.

For prop firms

For a futures prop firm trader, its free plan already gives a lot: an overview of every market, COT reports and the economic calendar to know when news is due. In our profiles, 11 of 85 firms forbid news trading and 25 limit it. It is no use for intraday trading, because the data is delayed.

Verdict

Barchart is among the best value for following futures and options, and its free plan is very useful. But its data is delayed, so it is a tool for analysing and preparing the session, not for trading.

Who it is for: futures and options traders who want data, COT and a calendar at a good price.

Who it is not for: anyone needing real-time quotes to trade.

Alternatives

  • Finviz: stock screener and futures overview, with a free plan.
  • FinancialJuice: live macro headlines.

A huge amount of data on stocks, ETFs, options, futures and currencies, with screeners, COT reports and options tools on Premier. Great value for money according to its users.

Reliability 3.6

Most have no issues. Users in Asia describe site outages outside US hours, and one doubts how it calculates returns on funds paying dividends.

See review
★★★★★“The site has been experiencing more breakdowns recently.”
Value for money 4.2

It is seen as cheap for what it offers. The only billing complaint is from someone who cancelled during the trial and was charged for the year, because you have to cancel by email.

See review

Ease of use 4.2

Users like its charts, screeners and watchlists, and the training: webinars and the daily Market on Close show.

Support 3.9

In 2026 many praise fast, human support. Criticism: no help during Asian hours and replies that miss the point.
