Revolut review

Researched and written by TheGodFunded4 min read

Revolut is an online bank with an app for holding money in several currencies, paying by card, exchanging currencies and buying crypto. For a trader it works as an account to receive payouts by transfer and, in some cases, in crypto.

According to the payout methods we keep in our firm profiles, 4 of the firms we cover pay through Revolut: Finotive, Finotive Futures, FTMO Futures and Leveraged. Firms paying by bank transfer can also send the money to your Revolut account.

We read its plans and fees for Spain, its help pages on deposits and crypto, and 963 of its 470,568 Trustpilot reviews.

Who is behind it

In Spain, Revolut operates as a bank: Revolut Bank UAB, authorised by the Bank of Lithuania and the European Central Bank, with a Spanish branch registered with the Bank of Spain. That sets it apart from Wise or exchanges: the money in your account is covered by the deposit guarantee scheme.

Crypto is different: it is provided by a separate company, Revolut Digital Assets Europe, licensed in Cyprus. And Revolut itself warns that crypto investment is not regulated like a deposit.

How you collect a payout with Revolut

  • By euro transfer: you give your Revolut IBAN and receive by SEPA, like any bank.
  • By dollar transfer: you add the dollar account and share the SWIFT details. Revolut does not charge to receive, but intermediary banks may deduct something if your firm does not pay all fees.
  • In crypto: Revolut accepts deposits of some cryptocurrencies, such as USDC on the Ethereum network. Check in the app which coins and networks it supports before sharing your address: if you send on an unsupported network, the money is lost. Its German help center says USDT has been delisted in Europe.

Source: Revolut plans and fees for Spain, checked on 9 October 2026. There are also Metal (€15.99 a month) and Ultra (€55 a month, introductory price) plans.

Note: the free plan's €1,000 limit also counts crypto and commodities. If you receive $3,000 a month and convert it to euros, on the free plan you would pay 1% on everything above €1,000. And never exchange at weekends.

What users say

Revolut scores 4.7 out of 5 on Trustpilot, from over 470,000 reviews. Almost eight in ten of those we read arrive through the app's automated invitation. Our review analysis above breaks it down.

  • Everyday use works very well: payments, travel and fast transfers.
  • Accounts frozen or closed after a review, sometimes with thousands of euros inside for months.
  • Crypto deposits held: one customer says they received $3,000 in USDT backed by an invoice and Revolut held it for automated checks; they were told it could take up to 21 business days.
  • Automated chat support that does not solve lockouts.
  • Constant push to sell paid plans.

How to use it well

  1. Get paid in euros or dollars by transfer rather than crypto, to avoid holds.
  2. Keep your firm's documents ready (contract and payout receipt) in case they ask about the source of funds.
  3. Exchange Monday to Friday and watch your plan's monthly limit.
  4. Work out whether a paid plan pays off: above €3,000 a month in exchange, Premium removes the fee.
  5. Have a second account in case Revolut reviews yours.

Verdict

Revolut is one of the most convenient options for receiving payouts in Europe: it is a bank with deposit protection, receiving is free and the app is excellent. Its weak points are the free plan's exchange limit, crypto costs and, as with Wise, accounts frozen without explanation.

Who it is for: traders in Europe paid by transfer who want an account with a card and deposit protection.

Who it is not for: anyone paid in USDT and anyone exchanging a lot of money each month without a paid plan.

Alternatives

  • Wise: cheaper dollar to euro conversion for large amounts.
  • Kraken: if your firm pays in crypto and you want to cash out to euros.
  • Rise: if your firm pays through Rise, you can withdraw to your Revolut account.

We read 963 of its 470568 reviews (mostly september and october 2026 reviews: the 200 most recent of each 1 to 4 star rating and the 5 star ones among the 200 most recent, so the sample is more critical than the full page), on 9 October 2026.

For everyday use, payments, transfers and travel, most say it works flawlessly. Serious complaints are accounts frozen or closed after a review, with thousands of euros inside for weeks or months, and crypto deposits held by automated checks.

★★★★★“At the beginning of May, Revolut halted my account and froze around €7,000 of my funds without giving me a clear explanation.”
Value for money 3.7

The free plan is enough to receive and convert up to €1,000 a month without a fee on weekdays. Above that it charges 1%, and crypto costs from 1.49%. There are complaints about paid plan trials that end up being charged.

★★★★★“Cryptocost are very high!”
Ease of use 4.5

The app is its strong point: fast, with instant notifications and everything in one place. What annoys users is the constant push to sell paid plans and products.

See review
★★★★★“I get countless emails and messages about upgrading and various offerings that I don’t really know what they are talking about.”
Support 2.3

An AI chat that does not solve issues and people hard to reach when there is a lockout. It is the reason for many negative reviews.

See review
★★★★★“Awful customer service with no clarity on what is going on- blaming automated checks”

It is a bank with a European licence and publishes its fees in detail. But it closes accounts without explaining why, and some customers complain about unclear plan terms.
