Our review

StrategyQuant X review

Researched and written by TheGodFunded2 min read

StrategyQuant X (SQX) is a program that generates automated trading strategies for you: it combines thousands of rules, tests them on historical data, discards those that do not hold up and gives you code ready to use on your platform. No coding needed.

We read its pricing page, its FAQ and its Trustpilot reviews (only 7 visible).

How it works

  1. Builder: creates strategies randomly or by genetic evolution from building blocks (indicators, conditions, exits).
  2. Robustness tests: Monte Carlo, other markets and periods, to discard strategies that only worked by luck.
  3. Optimiser: simple and walk-forward.
  4. Export: generates code for MetaTrader 4 and 5, TradeStation, MultiCharts and JForex.

It includes free forex, CFD and crypto tick data (from Dukascopy), a 56-lesson course and bonus strategies. It runs on Windows, Mac and Linux.

The risk: overfitting

A tool that tests millions of combinations will always find one that would have won in the past. That does not mean it will win in the future. Robustness tests exist for this, but you need to know how to use them: it is not a get-rich button.

For prop firms

If you want to use an EA generated with SQX at your prop firm, keep two things in mind:

  • Many firms limit automation. In our profiles, 21 of 85 forbid it and 18 limit it.
  • Many only allow your own EAs and forbid purchased or third-party ones. Check whether your firm considers a strategy generated with this tool your own, and do not use the bonus strategies, which are not yours.

Pricing

Lifetime licences (prices with the 12% offer running when checked):

Edition One-off Or in instalments What it includes
Starter $1,290 $129 a month, 12 months Builder, retester and improver, without advanced tests
Professional $1,490 (was $1,790) $149 a month, 12 months Robustness tests and walk-forward
Ultimate $2,900 (was $4,900) $290 a month, 12 months Everything, with lifetime premium data

What users say

StrategyQuant scores 4.3 out of 5 on Trustpilot, but from only 8 reviews (7 visible), all five-star. They highlight the builder's power, flexibility and solid backtesting. There are too few to draw conclusions. Our review analysis above breaks it down.

Verdict

StrategyQuant X is one of the most serious tools for building automated strategies without coding, especially for MetaTrader. But it is expensive and requires learning to avoid overfitting. For prop firms, the critical point is whether your firm accepts the EA as your own.

Who it is for: traders who want to get serious about algorithmic trading on MetaTrader.

Who it is not for: anyone looking for quick results or trading at firms that forbid EAs.
