What you are signing up for
When you buy a challenge, you are paying for the right to take a test. In Goat Funded Futures, most plans like the EOD Challenge require a one-time fee (for example, $138 for a $50,000 account). Once you pass, there is no activation fee, meaning you don't pay anything extra to receive your funded account.
Top One Futures has a different approach. Some plans, like the Elite Challenge, work with a monthly subscription ($63 for a $50,000 account) that you pay until you pass. Others, like Elite ACCESS, have a very low entry price of $39 but require an activation fee of $189 after you pass the test.
How hard each one is
The main difficulty lies in the risk rules. The most important one is the drawdown, which is the maximum amount you are allowed to lose before your account is closed.
- Goat Funded Futures uses "End of Day" (EOD) trailing drawdown in its main challenges. This means your loss limit only updates at the end of the trading day based on your closed balance. This is much friendlier for beginners because it doesn't penalize you for profits you didn't close during the day.
- Top One Futures also offers EOD trailing on many accounts, but some specialized plans like S2F Sim Pro use "Intraday" trailing. This is harder because the loss limit follows your profit in real-time, even if you haven't closed the trade yet.
Both firms set a profit target, which is the specific amount of money you must earn to pass the evaluation. For a $50,000 account, GFF asks for $3,000, while TOF usually asks for 6% of the balance (also $3,000).
How long it takes
In the past, firms forced you to trade for many days. Today, things are faster.
- Goat Funded Futures has no minimum trading days for its EOD and Sprint plans. You could technically pass in a single day if you hit the target.
- Top One Futures requires at least 1 day of trading for most plans.
- Neither firm has a maximum time limit. You can take months to pass as long as you don't break a risk rule.
Where beginners fail
Beginners often fail because of the consistency rule. This rule prevents you from passing the test with just one "lucky" trade. It requires that no single day represents more than a certain percentage of your total profit.
- In GFF, the limit is usually 50% during the evaluation.
- In TOF, the limit varies between 15% and 45% depending on the plan.
Another trap in Top One Futures is the 10-second rule: every trade must stay open for at least 10.01 seconds. If you close it earlier, it’s a violation. Goat Funded Futures does not have this rule, but it does deduct profits from trades closed in less than 2 minutes (micro-scalping).
What happens if you make it
If you pass, you receive a profit split, which is your share of the earnings.
- Goat Funded Futures gives you between 80% and 100% depending on the plan. They have a "payout guarantee": if they don't process your withdrawal in 2 business days, they give you a $500 bonus.
- Top One Futures gives you 90% across all products. They are very fast, with an average payout time of less than 12 hours.
For platforms, GFF offers a wider variety including NinjaTrader, Tradovate, and TradingView. TOF focuses on Project X, Quantower, and Black Arrow.
If it is your first time
If you are a complete beginner, Goat Funded Futures is likely the better choice. Their one-time fee model is simpler than TOF's subscriptions and activation fees. Furthermore, GFF allows the use of EAs (Expert Advisors), which are automated trading robots, while TOF strictly prohibits them. The absence of a 10-second rule also makes GFF more forgiving for those still learning to manage their entries and exits.
