What you are signing up for
A prop firm evaluation is a test where you pay a fee to prove you can trade. If you pass, the firm gives you access to a funded account where you keep a large part of the profits.
- Goat Funded Trader offers a 10,000 account for as little as $73 in its "2 Step Goat" model.
- WhitePips offers a similar 10,000 account for $96 in its "Edge 2 Step" model.
The "size" of the account is the virtual capital you will manage. You are not buying the money itself, but the right to be evaluated. Goat Funded Trader was founded in 2023 and has a longer track record than WhitePips, which is a very new firm founded in 2026.
How hard each one is
Dificulty is measured by the profit target, which is the specific percentage of gain you must reach to pass, and the drawdown, which is the maximum loss allowed before you are disqualified.
- In Goat Funded Trader (2 Step Goat), you need an 8% gain in Phase 1 and 6% in Phase 2. Your maximum loss is 10%.
- In WhitePips (Edge 2 Step), you need a 7.5% gain in Phase 1 and 5% in Phase 2. Your maximum loss is 9%.
Goat Funded Trader includes a "Goat Guard" system. This tool automatically closes your trades if you lose 2% of your balance in open positions. While it helps prevent a total failure, the first time it happens, your profit share is reduced to 50% as a penalty.
How long it takes
Most beginners feel pressured by time. Fortunately, both firms offer unlimited trading days for their standard evaluations.
- WhitePips provides a free trial for 14 days. This is a practice account that never leads to real funding, but it lets you test their conditions for free.
- Goat Funded Trader does not have a free trial, but it offers many more types of accounts, including "Instant Funding" where you skip the test and start earning from day one, though these are much more expensive.
Where beginners fail
Beginners usually lose their accounts due to a "drawdown breach." This happens when the account value drops below a certain floor.
- Both firms use "static" drawdown for their main evaluations. This means the floor is fixed based on your starting balance and does not move up as you make profits.
- WhitePips is very strict with technology. They prohibit the use of a VPN, which is a tool to hide your internet location, and they ban any trading bot (EA) that you did not build yourself.
- Goat Funded Trader has a "minimum holding time" of 1 to 2 minutes on funded accounts. If you close a trade in 30 seconds, you won't be banned, but you won't get paid for that profit.
What happens if you make it
If you pass the test, you become a "funded trader" and start receiving a profit split, which is your percentage of the earnings.
- Goat Funded Trader starts with an 80% split. They pay every two weeks. If they take more than 2 days to pay you, they give you an extra $500 as a guarantee.
- WhitePips also starts at 80%, but their "Prime" accounts offer a 100% split and a monthly salary of 1% of the account size. They allow withdrawals every 7 days after the first one.
Both firms use MetaTrader 5, but Goat Funded Trader offers more variety with platforms like cTrader and MatchTrader.
If it is your first time
Goat Funded Trader is the more logical choice for a beginner. It is significantly cheaper to start (only $73 for a 10k account) and has been in the market much longer, which provides more security. WhitePips is interesting because of the monthly salary, but being founded in 2026 makes it a very high-risk choice for someone just starting out.
