Forex Tester is one of the oldest manual backtesting programs: it has been around since 2006. It lets you practise on past data as if it were live, moving forward candle by candle and opening trades. In 2024 it launched Forex Tester Online, a new version that runs in the browser, and that is what it sells today. The Windows desktop version is the old one.
We read its website, its FAQ, its prop firm challenge page and 102 of its 114 Trustpilot reviews.
It runs in the browser, on Windows, Mac and Linux. It works on tablets, but they recommend a large screen.

Source: Forex Tester website, checked on 9 October 2026. These are non-promotional prices. It often runs offers, and from Europe prices show in euros and lower (Starter, €119 a year).
It scores 4.1 out of 5 on Trustpilot, from 114 reviews. Our review analysis above breaks it down.
Forex Tester has what matters most in backtesting: good data, with many years of tick history, and a complete prop firm simulator. The lifetime licence and 30-day refund lower the risk of trying it. Its drawback is that the web version still has bugs the desktop one did not.
Who it is for: forex or futures traders who want to practise with quality data and prefer to pay once.
Who it is not for: anyone who just wants to use their TradingView indicators, or anyone looking for something free.
We read 102 of its 114 reviews (almost all published reviews), on 9 October 2026.
The most valued part is the data: many years of history, even on 1-minute charts. Complaints: custom indicators that cannot be used or converted, and missing timeframes.
★★★★★“it can not test custom indicators although claims it can”
The desktop version had a solid reputation. Since the move to the web in 2024, users report freezes, charts jumping back to 2003 when changing timeframe and 4-hour candles starting at the wrong time.
★★★★★“I had an excellent experience with the offline version [...] after switching to Forex Tester Online, my experience has been very disappointing.”
The lifetime licence appeals to anyone avoiding subscriptions, and the 30-day refund works. Some find it expensive.
★★★★★“Don't like yearly subscriptions, so buying a one-time license here is a great deal.”
Anyone coming from MetaTrader adapts quickly, and the keyboard shortcuts are liked. Others find entering trades unintuitive.
★★★★★“One wrong key entered can reset or cancel your whole trade setup.”
Many positive reviews mention support. The company replies to half the reviews, in detail, although some reported bugs take months to fix.
★★★★★“its something that i claim for already 2 month and have not solution”
A company around since 2006, with published prices and a money-back guarantee. Few reviews for its age, and nearly seven in ten five-star reviews come from accounts with one or two reviews.
★★★★★“Constantly being brought back to 2003 when changing timeframes.”
It replies to half the reviews, point by point, and in some cases confirms the bug is already fixed.
Can you trust these reviews?
Nearly seven in ten five-star reviews come from accounts with one or two reviews, and three in ten arrive by invitation. Trustpilot shows no alert.
