Nexo Card review

Researched and written by TheGodFunded4 min read

The Nexo Card is the card from Nexo, a crypto platform known for crypto-backed loans and interest accounts. Its unique feature: it works in two modes you switch with one tap. In debit mode you spend your crypto. In credit mode you pay with a loan backed by your crypto, without selling it.

We read its official card page, the announcement of its launch in Argentina and 827 of its 18,776 Trustpilot reviews.

Who is behind it

Nexo operates through several companies depending on the country. In Europe, its website says custody, exchange and futures are provided by two German companies, Tangany and DLT Finance, under the European crypto-asset licence (MiCA). It also states that interest and loans are separate products, outside those licences.

What we could not find on its website is which entity issues the card.

How it works

  • Debit mode: you pay with your stablecoins, crypto or euro or dollar balances inside Nexo. You choose the order they are spent in by dragging them in the app.
  • Credit mode: you pay with a credit line that uses your crypto as collateral, with interest from 1.9% a year. There is no repayment schedule or credit check. It is the only mode that earns cashback.
  • Virtual card instantly, with just $50 in the account. The physical card ships free, but requires more than $5,000 and Gold tier.
  • Apple Pay and Google Pay.
  • Interest of up to 13% a year on the balance you do not spend, only for accounts above $5,000.

The risk of credit mode

Paying on credit with your crypto as collateral has a catch: if your crypto drops a lot, Nexo can sell part of it to cover the loan. This is called liquidation. On Trustpilot there are complaints from users whose bitcoin was liquidated for going only slightly over the limit. If you use this mode, leave a wide margin.

Where you can get it

According to its website, only in selected European countries: the European Economic Area, Spain included, and the UK. In July 2026 it also launched in Argentina, with payments in pesos and dollars.

Elsewhere you cannot get it, and that is the most repeated complaint in its reviews: users from Switzerland, Australia, India or the Caribbean say they have no access.

Tiers and cashback

Cashback and some perks depend on your loyalty tier, set by what share of your portfolio you hold in NEXO tokens, its own coin. It only counts if you have more than $5,000 in the account.

Tier Cashback (credit mode) Free ATM a month
Base 0.5% in NEXO or 0.1% in BTC Up to €200
Silver 0.7% in NEXO or 0.2% in BTC Up to €400
Gold 1% in NEXO or 0.3% in BTC Up to €1,000
Platinum 2% in NEXO or 0.5% in BTC Up to €2,000

The headline 2% is paid in NEXO tokens and requires holding a good part of your portfolio in them. In bitcoin, the maximum is 0.5%.

What users say

It scores 4.4 out of 5 on Trustpilot, from 18,776 reviews, with no alerts. But note: two in three reviews we read arrive by company invitation, and they cover the whole platform, not just the card. Only 93 of 827 mention it. Our review analysis above breaks it down.

What comes up most:

  • Cardholders are happy. They use it daily and while travelling, and like controlling limits and coins from the app.
  • Not available in their country. The most common complaint.
  • The $5,000 minimum for interest and cashback, which some say was introduced without warning.
  • Liquidated loans and polite support that rarely solves issues.
  • A case of €10,000 in unauthorised card charges that the user says Nexo has not refunded.

Verdict

For a European trader with a crypto portfolio above $5,000, the Nexo Card is one of the most complete: no fees, cheap weekday currency exchange, free ATM and the option to spend without selling. For small accounts it loses almost all its appeal: no cashback, no interest and no physical card.

Who it is for: residents of Europe or Argentina with over $5,000 in crypto who want to spend without selling and understand the liquidation risk.

Who it is not for: anyone living outside Europe and Argentina, anyone with a small balance and anyone who does not want to rely on a proprietary token for cashback.

Alternatives

  • Wirex: free physical card in Europe with no minimum balance.
  • KAST: 1.5% cashback in dollars with no minimum balance, but the company is in the Comoros.
  • RedotPay: for those living outside Europe.

What people say about Nexo Card on Trustpilot

We read 827 of its 18776 reviews (reviews of the whole nexo platform, not just the card: the 200 most recent of each 1 to 4 star rating and the 5 star ones among the 200 most recent. 93 mention the card), on 8 October 2026.

4.4 Trustpilot score
3.5 Based on what they say
Features 4.0

Credit mode, which lets you spend without selling your crypto, and interest on the balance are most valued. The big complaint is availability: users from Switzerland, Australia, India or the Caribbean say they cannot get it.

★★★★★“A good example is that the Nexo card is not available to Aus customers.”
Reliability 3.6

Cardholders are usually happy: they use it daily and while travelling without problems. Serious complaints come from the platform: loans liquidated when crypto drops and a case of €10,000 in unauthorised card charges left unresolved.

See 2 reviews
★★★★★“I use it now almost 3 years , never had a single problem . Love it .”
★★★★★“At the end of July, I reported approximately €10,000 worth of unauthorized Cursor transactions on my Nexo card.”
Value for money 3.3

The card has no fees, but cashback and interest require more than $5,000 in the account, and high cashback also requires holding many NEXO tokens. There are complaints about interest changes without notice and high spreads when exchanging in the app.

See review
★★★★★“they quietly locked the interest-earning features behind a hidden $5,000 portfolio minimum without any clear upfront warning.”
Ease of use 4.2

The app is liked: you choose the order of coins to pay with, limits are easy to control and the virtual card is instant. Some miss seeing clearly how much balance the card has available.

See review
★★★★★“full control over the limits, tokens priority and infos on the website are easy to understand.”
Support 3.0

Polite but not very effective, according to several long reviews: different agents in every reply and cases that do not move forward. Positive ones, many by invitation, describe it as quick.

See review
★★★★★“Customer support is polite, yet often not solution-oriented.”
Transparency 3.0

It publishes card fees clearly and its European website names the regulated German companies providing custody and exchange (Tangany and DLT Finance). But its website does not say who issues the card, and one user says Nexo asked them to remove their review.
